Still in the fight for a better Nigeria as Godwin trying his
best to make sure that the change we have all been talking about begins with us.
On an interview with one of Nigeria`s own, a student from UNIZIK, who has made
it his sole purpose to make the change start from his age and his surrounding,
Godwin Akwuobi, who laid down his view on how things are and how it could be
solved in his school, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, with the aim of initiating a
change in the minds of the current Student Association Government (SAG).
Godwin`s words below,
“They say
that the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, due to this, the youths are exuberantly
agitating that they get incorporated into the government. My question is, is
this how we are going to lead Nigeria? One of my mentors once said, ‘The youths
are the leaders of tomorrow but they cannot assume it unless they are prepared
for it’.
I once said in my CD message titled MESSAGE
TO NIGERIANS,
“if the youth must
make a difference in Nigeria and bring a dynamic change that would change the
course of Nigeria`s history in the nearest future, then they must undergo a
superior mind re-orientation, else they would turn out to become a time bomb
that would explode against the nation”.
I have
observed some of the student leaders in some schools, starting from the SUG to
the faculty and departmental leaders, only to find out that they are no
difference from our fathers who have kept Nigeria in this state of
dilapidation. Then I asked, what is the future of Nigeria in the hands of some
of these youths who have chosen to trend in the path of the old; lying,
deceiving and painting wrong pictures just because they want to assume a
particular seat? Of what use is a man`s life when he lives a life that lacks
integrity and virtue? Of what essence is he when he lives a life of deceit and
mischief?
Now I am
beginning to understand what late James Allen said when he said that man is the
architect of his own doom. In one of my invitation to Umunze (a town in Anambra
state) as a guest speaker to talk on leadership and entrepreneurship, I told
hundreds of youths gathered there that leadership is not a showcase of prowess
or hunger for importance or popularity, it is far more beyond that! Leadership
is a man showing his persuasive passion towards the betterment of his people
through his actions and endeavors.
If we lament and whine that Buhari is making a mess of the
country through his policies and leadership, what about us that have found
ourselves in some leadership positions, what have we really done with it.
It is quite appalling and unbecoming that the SAG government
of CHS okofia 2016/2017 led by Mr. Hillary Nkem, since elected has done little
or nothing regarding their agendas/manifesto. To mention but a few, the SAG
president in his manifesto booklet, wrote “my vision for the college is to
ensure that every common student in this school feels the impact of the student
government through massive actualization of 1; academic excellence 2;general
welfare 3; security consciousness 4;attraction of governmental assistance and
revenue generation”.
I want the readers of this article to by themselves confirm
if they have seen the manifestation of any of the above. This is height of
cluelessness i must say.
Under your watch, the school initiated a program that
warrants the students to pay #1000 for every four times they log into the
online result application whether they get value for their money or not, once
it redirects them, #250 is gone. This is staggeringly overwhelming, the
students laid low believing that they have representatives yet nothing happened
about it.
Young man (Mr. President) you better put your house in order
and fulfil your promises to the students else be ready to get your personality
dented before the students. Don’t give us reasons to believe that you are there
for your own selfish agenda. You still have some few months to function, make
good use of it or be ready to ruin your political ambition in the future
because this record will follow you everywhere you go. I stand for the interest
of the students and it is quite appalling to find out that you have done little
or nothing in the school. This is the height of kakistocracy!
SOLUTION
(Mr. President) call your excos together and create a
uniform agenda, it may be three-point or seven-point agenda depending on that
which the excos resolves, work together with synergy of strength, working on a
particular thing at a time (uniformness and oneness of goal) will produce more
result than when everyone is bent on working alone.
My advice to you is that you revisit your manifesto booklet
again and read through, maybe it would help you remember most of the things you
are meant to do.
I want to use this
opportunity to acknowledge Nnamdi
Officer whom through his influence the people of okofia can now boast of
a waste bin, I hope the good works will not stop”.
I believe our country is soon about to see the full light of
glory in the goodness of its citizens.
